Katarina started skating ice at the age of five. Then, her talent became apparent and she was accepted into Karl-Marx Stadt's special schools. This was where she met their coach Jutta Muller. Witt was able to make her mark in the second position she placed at the 1982 World Championships, held in Copenhagen. Her graceful and elegant style caught the attention of everyone immediately, and from that point forward she began to dominate the competition. Olympic victory At the Sarajevo Winter Games of 1984, Katarina Witz won the women's gold medal in figure skating following a close-fought competition. Then, four years after that she was able to take home an even intense race. Actually, she didn't win the free-skating contest, however, she was awarded gold for her performances during the compulsory short and figure programme. Witt became the women's first multiple winner in figure skating, following Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame After enjoying the success of an actress, Witt returned to the sport to compete at the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Games. She placed seventh but enchanted the crowd despite not winning a medal. Witt's entry into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame took place in 1995.
